What effect(s) have you seen performed that have made you think, just for a moment, that you may have just witnessed actual magic?

For me it was with Vince Fabek in 1977. We were sitting in the A&W in Albion, MI talking shop and without warning, Vince went into this very brief, but powerful mentalism bit.

I was told to think of a vegetable. Not write it down or tell anyone, just get an image in my head.

Vince named the vegetable.

Simple.

Magical.

For a second . . . I believed.

What's your story?

The pedal car ... by Doug Henning!

For some reason (my age) David Copperfield was vanishing the statue of liberty, and he gave his speech about why he made it dissapear...when it was gone, it felt like real magic to me.

Another time later in life was watching Veronon levitate in Colon around 96...wow that was magic too.

I don't know as this qualifies because it's actually the opposite effect... the first time I saw Ricky Jay I was convinced that there was no trick involved.  No magic.  No sleights.  Just superhuman skill with counting cards.  I think that's the reaction he was going for.

A few years ago, Jerry Andrus walked up to me with a smile on his face. He didn't offer an introduction; he simply gestured his palm toward me, and I nodded.

He kept smiling as he showed me a coin. I don't remember much after that, except for the end, when he shook his *open* palms and a heap of coins appeared.

For a brief second, I thought I was stuck in a folk tale. Everything else disappeared.

Before I could even react, he winked at me and walked away.

It was so powerful and beautiful that I was on the verge of tears.

I asked Kenn who he was several months ago, and he told me he'd passed away.

RIP, Mr. Andrus, and thank you.

A great encounter with a great individual.

What a special event for you!  Have you been able to pay it forward?

Unfortunately, no, since I don't do magic.  Undecided I do help little kids learn how to read, though, and reading is magical. Smiley

. . . I think I just threw up a little in my mouth, but I heard of it before.

. . . oh wow. That deserves a palm to the face.

Saw the last one, hilariously stupid.

Why are people so out of touch with reality?
