A well-known magician was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly firing a gun inside his rural Arroyo Grande home during an argument with his wife, according to San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s officials.
Claude Douglas Yarbrough, 55, whose stage name is Jonathan Pendragon of the world-famous, husband-wife illusionist team ”The Pendragons,” was taken into custody at gunpoint outside his home in the 200 block of Country Hills Lane, deputies said. Yarbrough wasn’t armed and surrendered without incident, officials said.
He was booked at County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse, making terrorist threats and firing a weapon in an inhabited dwelling.
After calling 9-1-1, Yarbrough’s wife, Charlotte, was directed by operators to flee to a nearby neighbor’s yard to avoid an armed confrontation with her husband. She wasn’t injured during the shooting, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The hand gun believed to have been fired by Yarbrough was located inside the home, along with four other handguns, a shotgun and rifle. All the weapons were seized by deputies for safekeeping, sheriff’s officials said.
